Chemists are well-accustomed to journals and papers as sources of knowledge... but they're missing a trick by ignoring an increasingly popular source of scientific insight—chemical patents.
For example, chemical patents can reveal every drug candidate used for a particular medical condition in a clinical trial. They can also help you distinguish compounds that have actually been synthesised by the patent holders from those that have not (so-called "prophetic" compounds, such as bioisosteres).
