Patsnap Joins ASEAN IP Cooperation to Support Trusted Regional IP Data and AI-Assisted Examination

Through a cooperation arrangement with ASEAN IP offices, Patsnap will support access to AI-assisted search and IP tools while working with authoritative ASEAN IP Register data covering more than 8.6 million registrations across 10 participating member states.

SINGAPORE, [ 13 July, 2026 ] — Patsnap has joined an enhanced cooperation arrangement between ASEAN IP offices and selected IP service providers to support the availability, quality and practical use of intellectual property data across the region.

The cooperation, coordinated through the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC), involves Patsnap, Questel and WIPS. Under the arrangement, IP service providers will receive access to select ASEAN IP data from member states, shared exclusively through the ASEAN IP Register. In return, ASEAN IP offices will gain access to IP management software, AI-assisted search tools and IP strategy assistance. The arrangement is intended to deliver two outcomes: improving the availability and quality of ASEAN IP data, and strengthening the examination capabilities of IP offices across the region.

The ASEAN IP Register is a unified regional database developed through collaboration between the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and AWGIPC. It consolidates registration information on patents, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications across ASEAN, and currently contains more than 8.6 million registrations from 10 participating ASEAN member states. Inventors, businesses and IP professionals can continue to access ASEAN IP data through the ASEAN IP Register on the ASEAN IP Portal.

For Patsnap, the cooperation reflects a long-standing focus on making complex IP information more searchable, readable and useful for real decisions. Patent documents contain some of the world’s most valuable technical knowledge, but they are often difficult to interpret without specialist tools and domain expertise. By combining authoritative regional data with AI-assisted search and structured IP intelligence, Patsnap aims to support more efficient examination, better prior-art discovery and more informed R&D and IP strategy across Southeast Asia.

ASEAN continues to strengthen its position as a regional innovation hub, driven by a burgeoning digital economy and a median population under the age of 35. This highlights the increasing need for strengthened innovation ecosystems, expanding digital capabilities and improved commercialization of research and development. Greater availability of high-quality IP data, alongside closer public-private cooperation, is expected to play an important role in the region’s continued innovation growth.

Patsnap’s work in IP and R&D intelligence is built on a curated data foundation covering more than 205 million patent records, 212 million scientific literature records and 1.6 billion legal records across 174 jurisdictions. Its domain-specific AI tools are designed for high-stakes IP and R&D workflows, where accuracy, traceability and expert context are critical.

“Patent information is one of the most important public sources of technical knowledge, but it is also one of the hardest to use well,” said Jeffrey Tiong, Founder and CEO of Patsnap. “We are grateful for the trust placed in Patsnap through this cooperation. By working with authoritative ASEAN IP data, we hope to make regional IP information more useful to examiners, businesses and inventors across Southeast Asia, and to support ASEAN’s broader vision for innovation.”

This announcement follows the original ASEAN IP Portal announcement, “ASEAN IP Offices Enhance Cooperation with IP Service Providers,” published on 7 July 2026.
